Research
UMass Boston has a long and honorable history of bringing intellectual resources to bear on issues of public concern, particularly through interdisciplinary research focused on complex urban problems. Through more than 30 research institutes and centers, students and members of the faculty pursue research on a broad range of topics that include public policy, education reforms, environmental affairs, media and society, healthcare and much more.

Interdisciplinary Research
Much of UMass Boston’s research work is organized into research clusters, which enable scholars and their partners in industry, other research organizations, and the community to exchange ideas and bring research knowledge to bear on cross-cutting questions of importance. These clusters include:
