Colleges and Programs

UMass Boston offers a range of undergraduate and graduate programs through its various colleges:

The College of Liberal Arts (CLA) offers undergraduate and graduate study in a wide range of academic disciplines spanning the humanities, fine arts, and social sciences, and leading to the BA, MA, MFA, and PhD degrees. CLA students can explore fields from Africana studies to psychology while interacting with an outstanding faculty and participating in a diverse student community.

The College of Management (CM) is accredited by the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB). The college offers undergraduate programs in management, accounting, marketing, and information technology and a range of graduate programs—MBA, MSA, MSF, MSIM, and MSIT.

The College of Nursing and Health Sciences (CNHS) addresses the health and fitness needs of diverse urban populations and maintains affiliation agreements with 215 agencies for clinical and internship practice. The college offers BS, MS, certificate, PhD, and DNP (Doctor of Nursing Practice) programs in nursing, and a BS program in exercise and health sciences.

The College of Public and Community Service (CPCS) provides an empowering and effective education to people who are committed to working for social justice and who want to promote positive development in their communities. The curriculum is competency-based and outcome-oriented, and includes undergraduate and graduate programs leading to the BA and MS.

The College of Science and Mathematics (CSM) offers undergraduate and graduate programs in fields from biochemistry to physics, which are enriched by opportunities to participate in independent research projects in productive and exciting research laboratories. CSM programs lead to the BA, BS, MS, and PhD degrees,

The College of Education offers undergraduate and graduate programs, leading to the BA, MEd, CAGS, and EdD, which are aligned with local, state, and national standards for school professionals, and legal and ethical requirements for best professional practice. The College is accredited by the National Council for the Accreditation of Teacher Education.

The John W. McCormack Graduate School of Policy Studies (MGS) offers certificate, MA, MS, and PhD programs in fields including public policy, public affairs, international relations, dispute resolution, and gerontology. It brings students, faculty, researchers, and graduates from a broad spectrum of backgrounds together to explore policy and the complex economic, social and political issues which increasingly shape diverse urban communities.

Library
The Joseph P. Healey Library at UMass Boston offers a wide array of scholarly resources and research support services, including:

Corporate, Continuing, and Distance Education (CCDE)
CCDE sponsors hundreds of courses in dozens of subjects weeknights off campus, weekends on campus, or online. It also offers professional training programs for exploring new careers, enhancing career paths, and attaining professional licenses.

Online Courses
Distance Learning and Online Education at UMass Boston includes individual online courses, as well as certificate, degree, and professional development programs.

English as a Second Language

The university’s English as a Second Language Programs are designed for individuals seeking to communicate more effectively and improve their performance in professional, academic, and social environments. The university also offers full-time English as a Second Language/University Preparation Program designed to prepare students for study at American colleges and universities.
