The University
Located on a 175-acre campus, UMass Boston shares a peninsula overlooking Boston Harbor with the John F. Kennedy Presidential Library and Museum and the Massachusetts Archives and Commonwealth Museum. The library, designed by I.M. Pei and now a Boston landmark, shares its archival resources with the university through a series of educational programs. An equally impressive range of research opportunities is provided by the Massachusetts Archives and Commonwealth Museum.

The University’s Campus Center provides both an academic and social focal point for many student services and activities, including:

  • more than 100 student clubs and activities,
  • a food court and café,
  • the university bookstore,
  • student publications including the Mass Media newspaper; LUX, a magazine focused on achievements throughout the campus; and The Watermark, a journal of the arts.
The campus also boasts the student-run Harbor Art Gallery; a theater; the Clark Athletic Center, which includes an ice rink, a basketball court, and a swimming pool; and the fully-equipped Beacon Fitness Center.

UMass Boston sponsors a public radio station, WUMB-91.9 FM, one of the country’s foremost stations for folk, blues, and acoustic music.

Boston
While attending UMass Boston, students have opportunities to experience all that the City of Boston has to offer. The history, culture, sports, entertainment, parks, food, and people are just a few reasons why many consider Boston a premier college town. Each year the city welcomes more then 250,000 students from all over the world.

Some popular historical and cultural attractions include the Freedom Trail, the Old North Church, the U.S.S. Constitution, the Museum of Fine Arts and the Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum, the Boston Symphony Orchestra, and Boston Ballet. Students with ID cards have access to the museums free of charge and are often able to purchase reduced-price tickets to the city’s many performing arts venues.

The Boston Common is America’s oldest city park, with beautiful gardens, multiple fountains, public tennis courts, and athletic fields. The city boasts numerous other parks and gardens, a number of which make up the “emerald necklace” of parks designed by Frederick Law Olmstead.
