Evergreen: The alternative, liberal, and environmentalist education

This college is not for everyone. It has a very unique system that enables students to design their own major. It requires you to be really driven and independent. It's less about getting a prestigious degree that people will look at and say 'wow he's got that prestigious degree so he must be good' but instead about getting a degree that speaks for itself. Evergreen is heavily inter interdisciplinary learning which so far I am enjoying thoroughly, I'm learning about so many different things I would never have thought about learning. Your final grades are not numbers but instead evaluations written by faculty about your performance. (much more telling than a number). You still take tests and can get 100% on your test but what you show to people is your faculty evaluations. (If you do really bad that results in loss of credits but someone can still get full credits in a program and do not so well, this is the whole point of the eval though it tells you everything.) Also for that to happen in every class there is a maximum of 20 students to one faculty which makes this system possible.

The atmosphere here in terms of living is fantastic. Olympia is a medium sized city, it's downtown very humble. Students can get around purely with the bus. There's a really welcoming community here who strive to welcome diversity and difference. (but again with all universities it depends on who you surround yourself with). Olympia is full of live music, there are several house shows every weekend. Evergreen is crazy good on activism. It's very very liberal. Also has really really interesting and REAL student groups.
The campus is in the middle of a huge huge forest which the campus owns. It's just absolutely gorgeous being surrounded by trees 24/7 and going out into the forest is great.
