Attractive return on investment
While SDSM&T may not have the renown that some of the bigger US universities have, it focuses on a few things and does them well, for a fraction of the cost. The rigorous academic and professional development programs put the best companies within your reach. And while the computer science program admittedly has a smaller range of electives than you could find at another university, SDSM&T makes up for it with its low student to faculty ratio. This gives you easy access to the professors, who really care about their students' career development. A highlight at SDSM&T are the numerous student organizations. There are organizations for a host of diverse interests from professional societies to the ski & snowboard club, which means that there's always something you can get involved in.

Don't give a second thought about School of mines
If you want to invest less and gain more out of it, then School of mines is the best school. Most of the graduate student get scholarship/assistantship which is hard to achieve in other USA universities.

A real bang for the buck
I honestly think any academic institution will provide career and life experience opportunities. SDSM&T is just another one of those. The two things I hear in this school that are most resonant to me is that: 1) it is incredibly affordable for international students, especially since your engineering degree is ABET-accedited, and 2) SDSM&T is surprisingly well known among employers. One advice I should give to students interested in SDSM&T is that the opportunities are here, but you need to seize them. This goes for both your school life and your career. You can either waste your 4 years away, not accomplishing anything but your degree, or you could have a life experience unique to SDSM&T. Goodluck!

Great School for internationals
SDSM&T is a great school, and from what I understand especially for undergraduate students. Quite limited funding opportunities for Graduate students seeking assistanships from the school. Luckily several faculty members have external funding for graduate students. The school staff, including the Ivanhoe International Center have really great staff that will work their behinds off to help students with everything they need from pre-arrival stuff like visas to making sure you have coffee when you need it. Absolutely recommended

Best school year I've had
I was an exchange student at SDSM&T spring and fall 2014. Going to Mines have thought me a lot about myself, study habits and a year at Mines got me more interested in my field. I am impressed and presently surprised over how good they are academically. I knew after being at SDSM&T that i wanted to proceed in my field and take a graduate degree in the U.S. My choice fell (again) on Mines because of their good academic programs but I also wanted to go somewhere that was affordable for me. Mines has everything, and if you open you're eyes, Rapid City and the Black Hills area has a lot to offer when you (if you...) have some spare time!
