Doctoral courses in art allow you to research an area of theory, or an artistic medium which is of particular interest to you. PhD topics on offer vary by institution but include particular periods of art history, critical theory, cultural identity, and mediums such as printmaking and sculpture. You will undertake an extensive research project with the aim of making an original contribution to knowledge and understanding in the field. Your work will be presented in a thesis or portfolio supported by a dissertation or commentary. You may be required to exhibit material during your studies.
