Doctoral music courses – things to consider

A doctoral course allows you to research in detail a particular area of musical theory or practice. Under academic supervision you will undertake an extensive research project; topics on offer vary by institution but may include composition, historical musicology, education or performance. Your aim as a PhD student is to produce a thesis that makes an original contribution to the field. Alongside your research many courses include core taught modules.
