Doctoral degrees in nursing and midwifery can either offer the opportunity for further academic research or for further study by professionals aiming to become experts and leaders in their field. Nursing PhD research programmes include topics in health education, multicultural health, clinical nursing, leadership and management, cardiac rehabilitation and wound care. A good first degree is usually required as well as work experience, however due to the variety and nature of courses on offer it is possible to be accepted with related demonstrable experience.
