At postgraduate level you can choose to follow a research based medicine course or a more practical programme based around particular techniques. Postgraduate research courses, which vary in their balance of classroom teaching and independent project research, include masters in cancer medicine, obstetrics and tropical medicine as well as more general courses allowing you freedom to select a project. Students sometimes follow a research programme during their professional training to develop expertise. Technical courses, such as cardiac imaging, teach practical techniques alongside research.
