The original Plymouth School of Art, an independent specialist art college, was opened in the year 1856 and was originally founded as an Art School. It is a provider of vocational art and design education in the region and offers a wide variety of vocationally-based programmes in art, design, crafts and media, from the introductory to the degree level and serves the needs of the Creative Industries sector. The College awards foundation degrees and BA (Hons) degrees.
