I am currently enrolled in a PhD programme in Law at Queen Mary University of London. I started in September 2013 and normally a full time PhD lasts three years. When I decided to apply for the programme I mainly chose Queen Mary because my professor is a leading expert on EU Criminal Law which is the topic of my PhD. However, during the first couple of months I also valued more and more the university as such. First of all there are a lot of seminar to attend and interesting lectures on both organizational as well as subject-matter issues. Second, there is a special course for PhD students which teaches valuable research skills and helps students of different fields of law to socialise. On top of that there are a lot of social activities for postgraduate research students from all different fields beyond law. All in all this creates a nice atmosphere in which I can improve my research skills, learn more about my topic and get in touch with a lot of other students. show less

I had great academic experiences at Queen Mary. I took 3 literature classes and 1 political science class. QM had an exchange with my university, so I didn't have to pay extra tuition or program fees. All of my classes were very demanding but also very rewarding. I got a lot of individual attention from all of my professors and the teaching assistants who led our smaller groups. My favorite class was Contemporary Writing, which examined books written in the previous two years. I lived in the Queen Mary dorms and attending several of the campus events. I lived with other international students and first year QM students and liked the area, Mile End. show less
