The School of Oriental and African Studies was founded in 1916 as the School of Oriental Studies. It took its present title in 1938. The School specialises in the study of Asia, Africa and the near and Middle East. Around 4,400 students are currently enrolled at the two campuses located in London; with one campus off Russell Square and another at Islington. The various faculties include Law and Social Sciences, Arts and Humanities, and Languages and Cultures. The school also includes six regional and 28 interdisciplinary centers which are responsible for seminars, conferences, colloquia and publications.
