Alvernia College was established in 1926 by the Bernardine Sisters of the Third Order of Saint Francis. In 1958, the institution was expanded into a four-year liberal arts college. It has a current enrollment of over 2750 students. Alvernia grants Associate Degrees, Bachelor of Arts, Bachelor of Science, Bachelor of Social Work, Bachelor of Science in Nursing, five Masters degrees (MA, MBA, MED, MSOT, MA-Community Counseling) and a recently added PhD program in leadership.
