Bank Street College of Education was founded by Lucy Sprague Mitchell in 1916 as the Bureau of Educational Experiments. The total strength of students presently studying at the college is around 1,000. The college comprises a Graduate School, which offers intensive masters degree programs every year to aspiring teachers and school leaders; a School for Children and Family Center, which offers education to nearly 500 children; and a Division of Continuing Education, which conducts the College's extensive outreach work.
