Bowie State is Maryland's oldest black university. The university is an outgrowth of the first school that was opened in Baltimore, MD, in 1865. It offers undergraduate degrees in relevant fields, master's, doctoral and advanced certificate programs. The university offers all its academic programs through its 4 schools, namely, Arts and Science, Business, Education and Professional Studies. Seven residence halls of the university provide on campus accommodation for the students.
