Illinois State University, the first public university in the state, was founded in 1857. It is a residential university whose emphasis is on undergraduate study. Its 34 academic departments in six colleges offer 67 undergraduate programs in more than 188 fields of study. The six colleges include College of Applied Science and Technology, College of Arts and Sciences, College of Business, College of Education, College of Fine Arts, and Mennonite College of Nursing. It has over 20,104 students enrolled at its campus which is located in the twin-city community of Bloomington-Normal, southwest of Chicago.
