Louisiana State University Health Sciences Center is a division of Louisiana State University, a publicly funded institution in Louisiana. The University has two Health Sciences Centers in New Orleans and Shreveport. The New Orleans Center specializes in teaching, research and healthcare through the School of Medicine, School of Graduate Studies of the Health Sciences Center, School of Dentistry, School of Nursing, School of Allied Health Professions and the School of Public Health. Louisiana State University was founded in 1853, while the Center began in 1931 with the establishment of the School of Medicine. The Center has around 800 students on campus.
