Mississippi State University, a public institution, was established in 1878 and is located in Starkville, Mississippi. Apart from the main campus, the university also operates out of its Meridian campus. Around 16,000 students are currently enrolled at the university. It grants undergraduate, graduate, pre-professional and doctoral programs. The university is organized into the colleges of Agriculture and Life Sciences; Architecture, Art and Design; Arts and Sciences; Business and Industry; Education; Bagley Engineering; Forest Resources; and Veterinary Medicine; and the School of Accountancy, School of Chemical Engineering and Shackouls Honors College.
