In 1899 the San Francisco State University, a public urban university, was founded as the San Francisco State Normal School. It is located in Holloway Avenue, San Francisco and enrolls around 30,000 students annually. The university awards undergraduate and graduate degrees, graduate certificate programs and a Doctorate of Education degree. The off campus centers are at Downtown campus, Romberg Tiburon Center for Environmental Studies, Sierra Nevada Field Campus and Moss Landing Marine Laboratories.
