University of Saint Mary of the Lake was established initially in 1844 as Saint Mary College and flourished until 1866 when financial difficulties forced it to close; then in 1921 Archbishop George Mundelein opened a new seminary. It is a private institution located in Mundelein, Illinois. The Seminary offers first-professional degrees, doctors degrees and post baccalaureate certificate programs in Divinity, Ministry, Pastoral Studies, Counseling and Theological Studies for the 260 students enrolled at the Seminary.
