AUT Doctoral Scholarships

Eligibility requirements

Applicants must meet English language proficiency requirements as stated in the Academic Calendar at the time of application. Applicants must meet the normal admission criteria for the doctoral programme and have received an Offer of Place (OOP) for the doctoral programme at AUT.

Recipients of this scholarship will have an excellent academic record, strong academic references and have demonstrated the potential for high quality research.

Scholarships are awarded on academic merit and recipients of this scholarship will normally have the equivalent of first class honours. Previous study should include research methodology paper(s) and an independent research project, including the writing of a report on that research.

The applicant’s proposed field of study must be one where the University can offer supervision. Applicants should contact potential supervisors prior to application to confirm the availability of supervision for their proposed research.

Preference will be given to new applicants to the doctoral programme at AUT, including those currently in provisional candidature. Applicants who have applied unsuccessfully in past rounds may reapply only if there is a change to the information submitted.

Tenure: All AUT PhD scholarships are tenable for up to three years. Support for a Professional Doctorate will be for up to two years only.

In order for the application to be submitted applicants must complete all sections and request the required support statements. Incomplete applications will not be forwarded to the selection panel.  The following documents or statements will need to be uploaded and submitted with the AUT Doctoral Scholarship On-line Application Form;

  • Academic transcript(s) for any previous tertiary study that was completed at a university other than AUT
  • A brief C.V. (maximum three pages)

A two page proposal outlining the intended research using the template provided with the online application form. The applicant will be asked to provide the following details:            

  • Proposed Topic/Title
  • Rationale and significance of the study
  • Key Question/hypothesis/problem/issue to be investigated:
  • Design of the study; the methodology and research technique(s) to be employed in the study
  • Research benefits
  • References

Please note the proposal must be two pages only (1,000 words) plus a maximum of one page for any references. If a longer document is provided you will be asked to revise the document to meet the requirements or the approved PGR2.

An annual stipend of NZ $25,000 plus Full fees plus an annual stipend of either NZ $15,000, NZ $20,000 or NZ $25,000.

The Capstone Editing Laptop Grant for Postgraduate Coursework Students

The scholarships are awarded to people without restrictions of gender, race, nationality, creed or age who, by their occupations, courses of study or experience are qualified to carry out research (at Masters level) in the fields of research which the scholarship is for. The fields of research in which the scholarships will be tenable for the years 2016 to 2020 are as follows: 2016 Psychology and Psychiatry 2017 Medicine and Veterinary Science 2018 Agriculture and Theology 2019 Psychology and Psychiatry 2020 Medicine and Veterinary Science.

Zonta International Amelia Earhart Fellowships- New Zealand

Eligibility requirements

Woman of any nationality are eligible. To apply for the Amelia Earhart Fellowship, applicants must meet the following minimum requirements:

  • Be registered full-time Ph.D./doctoral programme in qualifying area of science or engineering closely related to advanced studies in aerospace-related science or aerospace-related engineering at the time the application is submitted. A letter of acceptance or verification of enrolment must be submitted with the application.
  • Demonstrate a superior academic record at a recognized university or college with accredited courses in aerospace-related studies as verified by official transcripts and recommendations. In programs where graduate transcripts are not provided as a matter of institutional policy, applicants should provide a statement that policy from the registrar or other school official. Please note that electronic transcripts will not be accepted.
  • Provide evidence of well-defined research program in aerospace-related science or aerospace-related engineering as described in the application essay (in general scientific terms), academic documents and publications
  • clearly demonstrate the relationship of the research to aerospace and furnish verification of research program through at least one of the reference letters required with the application (i.e. research supervisor or advisor must be one of the referees).

Tenure: One year. Current fellows may apply to renew the Fellowship for a second year and will undergo the same application and evaluation procedures as first-time applicants.

The Zonta International Amelia Earhart Fellowship Committee reviews the applications and recommends recipients to the Zonta International Board. All applicants will be notified of their status by the end of April.

The Capstone Editing Textbook Grant for Undergraduates

Before applying for this scholarship, please check your eligibility against these criteria: -You must be enrolled in an undergraduate degree at an Australian or New Zealand university. - You can be studying internally or externally. - You can be a domestic or international student. - The grant is primarily for full-time students. If you are studying part time, you are only eligible to apply if you can demonstrate carer commitments or a medical condition that prohibit you from studying full time. - You must be a full-time student for the duration of the grant. You will receive one $1,000 gift voucher per year for three years, so long as you are studying full-time during those years (you are still eligible if you become a postgraduate student during that time). - You cannot apply if you are an employee or contractor of Capstone Editing (or a family member of an employee or contractor).

Tenure: The grant is provided in the form of one $1,000 gift voucher per year for three years (so long as you remain a student) to the Co-op book store, which has stores in most states and delivers throughout Australia. The grant recipient will be free to purchase any books they feel they need for their studies.

Auckland Council Research Scholarship in Urban Economics

Eligibility requirements

At the time of application candidates must be enrolled or planning to enrol in a postgraduate programme at a New Zealand university (applicants may be enrolled as full time students).

The postgraduate programme must be in the area of urban economics. Universities NZ and Auckland Council reserve the right to determine the eligibility of a particular area of study.

A thesis, dissertation, or research report must be a requirement of the postgraduate programme.

Tenure: The scholarship can be held for only one academic year. Candidates whose programmes are spread over more than one academic year are eligible for only one year’s scholarship.

Selection criteria:

To be eligible for a scholarship your study must fall into one of the following categories:- Agricultural advancement by supporting education - If you are completing tertiary study relating to agriculture, animal health or food production you may be eligible for a scholarship. Relief of poverty in the Pacific Islands - If you are of Pacific Island (particularly Solomon Island) descent and you are completing study in New Zealand with the sole purpose of returning to the Pacific Islands once your studies have been completed you may be eligible for a scholarship. Christian teaching and activities - If you are completing study that relates to Christianity you may be eligible for a scholarship Morrinsville community - If your study relates to Morrinsville history and the preservation of historical sites, information or artefacts you may be eligible for a scholarship

The Trustees meet once every eight weeks. When you submit an application (or your results for a semester) you will receive an e-mail confirming receipt of the same and advising the date of the next Trustee meeting. The outcome of your application will be advised to you as soon as possible after the meeting.
