Department of Accountancy - Undergraduate Entrance Scholarships for Direct Entrants

Eligibility requirements

Eligible applicants for the scholarships shall be full-time undergraduate freshmen who have been admitted to the Department’s undergraduate programmes through the Non-JUPAS route and who have achieved outstanding academic achievements which is judged to be equivalent to either HKDSE score at 25 or above, or other local, Mainland or overseas academic results acceptable to the Department for this purpose and have demonstrable record in merits or achievements.

 The Scholarships are automatically renewed each year on condition that the scholarship recipient achieves a Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) at 3.0 or above by the end of Semester B each year and he/she enrolls in the same programme of study throughout the award period.

 Award winners will not be eligible for consideration of the other entrance scholarships offered by the Department of Accountancy (e.g. Undergraduate Entrance Scholarships for JUPAS Entrants).

 In the event that the number of qualified applicants is larger than the number of awards available, the Department of Accountancy has the discretion to decide the award winners according to other additional criteria set by the Department.

 For each academic year, the scholarship amount shall be disbursed to the duly registered recipients by two equal installments, one after the full payment of tuition fee for Semester A by November, and the other after the full payment of tuition fee for Semester B by March of the following calendar year.

 Nominations by the Department of Accountancy shall reach the Student Development Services on or before the end of October of the academic year for which the scholarships are designated.

The Department of Accountancy reserves the right to withhold the number of nominees.

The Scholarships shall be offered annually until further notice is received from the Department of Accountancy.

Value details

Value of no more than two Scholarships shall be awarded up to a maximum of HK $30,000 each per annum. Value of no more than two Scholarships shall be awarded HK $5,000 each per annum.

Mr. Herman Hu Outstanding Sports Talents Scholarships

Eligibility requirements

The Scholarships shall be awarded to exceptionally talented sportsmen / sportswomen from Hong Kong, Mainland and overseas who pursue full-time study in CityU.

Renewal of the awards subject to (a) continued satisfactory academic performance of the recipient (i.e. CGPA at 2.5 or above by the end of Semester B each year); and (b) continued satisfactory sports performance as determined by the Physical Education Section of Student Development Services.

The scholarship is tenable for two to four years depending on the duration of the registered associate degree or bachelor degree programme of the student or until the completion of the associate degree / degree programme as enrolled, whichever is the shorter period. The scholarship may be suspended for any period when the student is absent from the University, such as enrolling in a job placement scheme or other interruption.

The scholarships shall be paid by off-setting the student’s full or half tuition fee and residence fee (for double occupancy) for two Semesters in each academic year, with the balance, if any, to be paid to the student’s bank account.

Outstanding Athletes Entrance Scholarships

Eligibility requirements

Student Athletes admitted to the University through Student Athletes Admission Scheme (SAAS) should :

  • meet the general entrance requirements and the specific programme requirements;
  • demonstrate high sports performance standards;
  • be recommended by their secondary schools;
  • be recommended by either a Sports Club, or a National Sports Association, or the Hong Kong Sports Institute.

Application details

The Scholarship is tenable for two to four years depending on the duration of the registered UGC undergraduate / UGC associate degree programme of the students.

The renewal of Scholarship shall be subject to: 1. students continued satisfactory academic performance with a Cumulative GPA of 2.5 by the end of Semester B each year; and 2. students continued satisfactory sports performance and team contribution as determined by the Physical Education Section.

The award shall be paid by two equal installments by crediting to students personal bank account. The first installment is payable in the middle of Semester A while the second is payable in the end of Semester B. Nevertheless, Physical Education Section may reserve the right to withhold the payment for Semester B if student does not make satisfactory sports performance and team contribution in the academic year.

Eligible applicants for the scholarships shall be full-time undergraduate freshmen who have been admitted to CityU via the University’s Student Athlete Admission Scheme.

The Scholarship may be suspended for any period when i) the student is absent from the University, such as enrolling in a year-long job placement scheme or other interruption; or ii) the student is absent/ has withdrawn/ has been removed from University’s sports teams.

The sports achievement / performance of the candidates will be recognized in the recent one year

Nominations shall be made by the coaches of CityU Sports Team and the winners of the awards will be selected by a Selection Panel to be chaired by the Associate Director (Physical Education) of Student Development Services.

Mr. Herman Hu Outstanding Sports Awards and Scholarships

Eligibility requirements

There shall be two Tennis Most Valuable Players in the amount of HK $5,000 per annum, with one for a male student and the other for a female student, who met the following criteria: i. demonstrated good sports performance and achievements in local or international competitions; and ii. have proven leadership and sportsmanship in the CityU tennis team; and iii. obtained satisfactory academic performance.

There shall be TWO to THREE Athlete Awards and the value of each award shall be HK $10,000. The Awards shall be granted to athletes who shall meet the following criteria : i. demonstrated good sports performance and achievements in local or international competitions; and ii. have proven leadership and sportsmanship in the CityU sports team(s); and iii. obtained satisfactory academic performance with CGPA 2.5 or above.


Nominations shall be made by the coaches of CityU Sports Team and the winners of the awards will be selected by a selection panel to be chaired by Associate Director (Physical Education) of Student Development Services.

The donor shall be invited to present the scholarships in the annual CityU Sports Team Annual Prize Presentation Ceremony to be held in April each year.

Half Tuition Scholarships

Eligibility requirements

Applicants do not have to apply for these scholarships. The appropriate level of scholarship is awarded based on merit. Students receiving it are required to attain a Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) of 3.2 or above every year during the period study for renewing the scholarship.

Department of Management Sciences Entrance Awards

Eligibility requirements

To be eligible for the Gold (Silver) Award, an applicant is normally required to earn a minimum CGPA of 3.7 (3.4) in his/her first year of study in a degree programme offered by the City University of Hong Kong. This notwithstanding, at the discretion of the Scholarship Committee, the minimum GCPA requirement may be waived for well-qualified applicants.

As a general principle, the actual dollar amount granted for a Silver Award will be directly proportional to the CGPA achieved by the applicant in the assessment year.

The award recipients will receive the award in the first semester studying in full-time MS degree programmes. The actual number of awards to be granted each year will be determined by the assessment panel.

Nominations from the Department of Management Sciences shall reach the Student Development Services by the end of June each year.

Confirmation on the renewal of the awards for the following academic year will be sought from the Department of Management Sciences before July each year.

Gold Awards - up to 6 awards at HK $50,000 each; Silver Awards - up to 25 awards at HK $5,000 to HK$20,000 each per year. The maximum amount of the funds in a given year will not exceed HK $500,000 in total.

School of Law Admission Scholarship for the LLM Programme

Eligibility requirements

The details and the selection criteria of the awards are specified below:

For JUPAS HKDSE students

The candidates who are studying Form 6 should be nominated by the principals of local secondary schools and their application will be screened by the Selection Committee. A number of shortlisted candidates will be invited to attend a selection interview. Each principal could only nominate ONE student from the school for the scholarship. In addition, candidates should put the LLB programme in Band A choices through the Joint University Programmes Admissions System (JUPAS).The maximum value of each award shall be up to HK $50,000.

To identify the best students to the programme, it is proposed to establish the selection criteria, for example, achieving satisfactory grades in the HKDSE, the actual performance of the students in the previous two years and nomination of the school principals. It is proposed to adopt the best result among the 2015/2016 admitted students as a minimum benchmark for admission.

For non-JUPAS students (IB applicants/GCEAL applicants/HKALE applicants /degree holders)

The candidates who apply and are admitted into the LLB programme must make the application for the Admission Scholarship together with the recommendation from the school principle (for IB, GCEAL and HKALE applicants) or academic department head (for degree holder). A selection interview will take place. The maximum value of each award shall be up to HK $50,000.

MBE Scholarship for Non-JUPAS Entrants

Eligibility requirements

The MBE Scholarship for Non-JUPAS Entrants will be offered annually until further notice from the Department.

Students who are admitted to one of the MBE Department’s UGC-funded full-time programmes through the non-JUPAS route, excluding recipients of other entrance scholarships.

The Scholarship will be awarded primarily based on the academic merit of nominees, who should obtain a minimum CGPA of 3.5 in Associate Degree or Distinction Award in Higher Diploma or other equivalent qualifications. Other areas such as leadership potential, non-academic achievements, community services and personal qualities will be taken into consideration as well.

Up to a maximum of five awards will be given.  The amount of each scholarship HK $40,000 shall be disbursed to the awardees by two equal installments in the year of admission, one after the full payment of tuition fee for Semester A and completion of Semester A studies, and the other after the full payment of tuition fee for Semester B and completion of Semester B studies, subject to the attainment of a minimum GPA of 3.0 in the respective semesters.

New Grant to Increase Diversity on Campus

Eligibility requirements

All non-local students admitted from underrepresented nationalities except Top Scholarship recipients will be eligible for the new grant.

Awardees will be required to engage in a volunteer activity to enhance internationalization of CityU annually. The grant will be paid in installments and automatically renewed each year.

Awarded to a full-time student athlete who: is successfully admitted to the University with talent in distance running; and join the University's sports team and participate in training and races.

The renewal of Scholarship shall be subject to: 1. student’s continued satisfactory academic performance with a Cumulative GPA of 2.5 by the end of Semester B each year; and 2. student’s continued satisfactory sports performance and team contribution in training and races as determined by the Physical Education Section.

The award shall be paid by two equal installments by crediting to student’s university account to offset partial tuition fee directly. The first installment is payable in the middle of Semester A while the second is payable in the end of Semester B. Residence Scholarship Scheme for Student Athletes

Eligibility requirements

Terms and conditions 1. Nominations of new students shall be made by Physical Education Section through the Student Athletes Admission Scheme.

Nominations of current students who admitted through the Student Athletes Admission Scheme shall be made by Physical Education Section basing on the following criteria: i) students’ continued satisfactory academic performance with a Cumulative GPA of 2.5 by the end of semester B ; and ii) students’ continued satisfactory sports performance and team contribution as determined by the Physical Education Section.

The award shall be paid by two equal installments, i.e. one in semester A while another in semester B to cover students’ hostel fees. No cash award will be granted to awardees in any case.

Physical Education Section may reserve the right to withhold the payment for Semester B if the student does not make satisfactory sports performance and team contribution in Semester A of the same year.

Accommodation is provided in a double room at the University’s Student Residence for Semesters A and B.

The Scholarship may be suspended for any period when i) the student is absent from the University, such as enrolling in a year-long job placement scheme or other interruption; or ii) the student is absent/ has withdrawn/ has been removed from University’s sports teams.
