What will I learn?

A complex and exciting country, Indonesia is so close to Australia yet different in so many ways. Drawing on our extensive links in Indonesia and with the Indonesian community in Australia, you can experience a highly integrated and contemporary program covering history, politics, geography, anthropology, language and culture.As a graduate you will have strong language abilities, transferable academic skills, and substantive country knowledge. The Indonesian Studies major will provide you with the linguistic and academic skills required to use Indonesian in a variety of settings, and to conduct research using Indonesian language.Students will follow the appropriate pathway specified in the unit of study tables, based on their individual language level. Students completing any of the pathways for a major will be awarded a major in Indonesian Studies.Appropriate language units are determined either by language level and grade therein achieved in Higher School Certificate (as listed in the pathways linked above) or International Baccalaureate, and/or by one-on-one interviews prior to commencement. If you are unsure of your language level or which pathway is appropriate for you, please contact the Department for advice.
