What will I learn?

To forge a business career, you need creative and agile thinking as much as a calculator. Our Bachelor of Business is taught in a dynamic environment where fresh ideas and a global outlook are always flavour of the month.

Work placements are a feature – you can complete internships either in Australia or abroad in your field of interest, building your professional networks as you earn credit towards your degree.

You'll learn foundational business principles in law, accounting, economics, management and statistics. You can also pursue specialist knowledge from a diverse range of majors, including aviation (that includes a specific pathway to gain a Commercial Pilot’s Licence), or majors in finance, accounting, international business, management, human resources and marketing.

Our graduates gain the professional, critical thinking and communication skills to run their own businesses or pursue careers in marketing, product management, investment, finance and more.

Major area of study

Students have the option of completing the core units in the Bachelor of Business plus electives or they may specialise in one or more business disciplines of their choice through the study of a single or double major.

All majors are available in online study mode. On-campus students may also study any Bachelor of Business major online. Some majors, study streams and units may not be available at each campus location.

Assessment methods

Assessment may be in the form of essays, reports, audio or video presentations, online quizzes, case analyses, and examinations.

Teaching methods

On-campus students experience a variety of teaching approaches including lectures, tutorials, online activities and video-linked or podcast virtual classes. The method of teaching may vary from unit to unit.

Our online study option is highly interactive and strives to promote collaboration and a sense of community. Students may receive a combination of podcast or video-linked lectures, electronic study materials, workshops, online discussion forums and virtual classes. The method of teaching may vary from unit to unit.

Career opportunities

Graduates of the Bachelor of Business gain the professional, critical thinking and communication skills to run their own business or to pursue career opportunities in a broad range of sectors, including marketing, product management, investment, finance and more.

The Bachelor of Business with a finance major is a pathway to many financial services positions in commercial banking, corporate finance, funds management and stockbroking, financial risk management, foreign exchange and investment banking. If your chosen career path is to become a licenced Financial Planner or Financial Adviser, you need to be aware that recent legislative changes in the finance industry now require new entrants to hold an Approved Degree. Southern Cross University is liaising with FASEA to develop and restructure its finance degrees to meet the new educational requirements.
