What will I learn?

Graduate as an industry-ready civil engineer by studying Deakin’s Bachelor of Civil Engineering (Honours). You will combine contemporary theory with industry-led projects to develop the skills needed to confidently design, construct and maintain the built infrastructure systems that are vital in our day-to-day lives.

You will learn how to apply scientific and engineering principles to address complex problems and develop innovative solutions that are beneficial to organisations and the community.

In this Engineers Australia-accredited course, you will gain a deep understanding of the way infrastructure works, not just through textbooks, but by applying your skills in cutting edge engineering facilities. Work on industry-informed projects and undertake work placements to gain valuable real-world experience and build your professional networks.

Course structure:

To complete the Bachelor of Civil Engineering (Honours), students must attain 32 credit points, which must include the following:

Thirty (30) credit points of core units

2 elective units (2 credit points)

Completion of three (3) zero-credit point compulsory units:

SEJ010 Introduction to Safety and Project Oriented Learning

STP050 Academic Integrity

STP010 Career Tools for Employability

Career outcomes:

Graduates can expect to gain employment in a wide range of organisations such as construction companies, councils, water authorities, government bodies, public works departments and as consulting engineers.

Entry requirements

For students from United States

Entry for applicants with previous Tertiary, VET, life or work experience will be based on their performance in: a Certificate IV in a related discipline OR a Diploma in any discipline or 50% completion of a Diploma in a related discipline OR successful completion of relevant study at an accredited higher education institution equivalent to at least two Deakin University units OR other evidence of academic capability judged to be equivalent for example relevant work or life experience. Other English Language Requirements accepted: IELTS: Overall 6.0, no band less than 6.0; TOEFL (PBT) score of 550 Writing 4.5; TOEFL Internet Based: 65 Writing 21; CPE: 169 no band less than 169; CAE: 169 no band less than 169; PTE: 52-57 No less than 50 in each skill.

For international students

Students must have qualification most relevant to your secondary school studies.

The Australian Tertiary Admission Rank (ATAR) is the primary criterion for entry into most undergraduate-entry university programs in Australia.

International students who completed an Australian Year 12 in Australia or overseas should apply for undergraduate courses through the Victorian Tertiary Admissions Centre (VTAC), as well as directly to Deakin through Study Link Connect – Deakin University's International Student Application Service.
