The Australian Maritime College delivers a specialist engineering program that will guide you towards a thriving career in the maritime industry. Your studies will focus on one of three maritime industry specializations: Naval Architecture, Ocean Engineering, or Marine and Offshore Engineering.

Naval Architecture

Naval Architecture focuses on the design and construction of everything from submarines and naval ships to luxury yachts, ferries, and cargo vessels. Across multiple branches of engineering, you can gain expertise in the shipping, high-speed, offshore, defense, underwater and recreational industries.

Ocean Engineering

Dive into advanced studies of the ocean environment and the conditions that impact the life cycle of marine structures. Ocean Engineering focuses on the design, construction and operation of offshore, subsea and coastal structures. You will also learn about applied wave mechanics, underwater technology and offshore renewable energy concepts.

Marine and Offshore Engineering

This specialization focuses on the design, maintenance, and management of mechanical and mechanical-electrical systems. You’ll also learn about diverse maritime engineering topics from oil and gas exploration and extraction to submarine cabling, wind farms and wave power.

Bachelor of Maritime Engineering (Specialization) (Honors) – AUT

This degree program is available to students who have completed years 1 and 2 in the Bachelor of Engineering (Maritime Majors) at the Auckland University of Technology, New Zealand.

Bachelor of Maritime Engineering (Specialization) (Honors) – ECU

This degree program is available to students who have completed years 1 and 2 in the Bachelor of Engineering (Naval Architecture) Honours at Edith Cowan University, Western Australia.

Bachelor of Maritime Engineering (Specialisation) (Honours) – Flinders

This degree program is available to students who have completed years 1 and 2 in the Bachelor of Engineering (Naval Architecture) at Flinders University, South Australia.

Entry requirements

For students from United States

GCE A Levels - Minimum score of 7 calculated using 2 or 3 H2 level subjects. Admission to undergraduate courses at the University of Tasmania requires qualifications equivalent to the 12th year of schooling in Australia. English language requirements: IELTS (Academic) - 6.0 (no individual band less than 5.5); TOEFL (IBT) 72 (no skill below: Reading 10; Listening 9; Speaking 16; Writing 19); PTE Academic 50 with no score lower than 42; UTAS Access-English Level 6 - 60% (no individual score less than 55%); Cambridge CAE (Certificate of Advanced English) - B Grade; Cambridge CPE (Certificate of Proficiency in English) - C Grade; Cambridge BEC (Business English Certificate) Higher - C Grade.

For international students

Admission to undergraduate courses at the University of Tasmania requires qualifications equivalent to the 12th year of schooling in Australia.

International students must provide one of the following: UTAS Access Level 6 with a minimum overall score of 60% and no individual skill below 55%; or an IELTS score with an overall Band of 6 and no band less than 5.5; or a TOEFL (iBT) overall score of 72 (no individual skill must be lower than: Reading 10; Listening 9; Speaking 16; and, Writing 19) or a PTE Academic overall score of 50 with no score lower than 42, or provide evidence that you have studied for 2 years full-time with English as the sole medium of instruction and examination. These tests must not be more than 24 months old.
