What will I learn?

When you undertake the Bachelor of Philosophy/Bachelor of Theology, you will be encouraged to reflect deeply and critically on the fundamental questions that have perplexed man since ancient times. You will also be challenged to examine your own beliefs, values and approach to living. A study of philosophy will boost your own critical thinking abilities and deepen your cultural literacy by exploring how philosophical thought has influenced Western culture.

Why study this degree?

Students of Philosophy are encouraged to reflect deeply and critically on fundamental questions, and are challenged to examine their own beliefs, values and the practical implications for living. They learn to apply various methods to evaluate the arguments of both Christian and secular thinkers and develop cultural literacy by exploring how philosophical thought has influenced Western culture.

The Theology aspect of the program immerses students in faith, knowledge and values that are at the core of the University's objects. It offers a thorough and comprehensive grounding in the principal areas of philosophical and theological studies.

Program summary

The Philosophy courses cover 4 discipline areas: Foundations of Philosophy, History of Philosophy, Moral Philosophy, and Philosophy of the Human Person. The Theology courses cover five discipline areas: Scripture, Church History, Systematic Theology, Moral Theology, and Pastoral Theology.

Entry requirements

For students from United States

Applicants with recent Secondary Education must have a HSC Performance Band Results with a Band 4 in English, a minimum average of Bands 4s and an overall minimum average HSC mark of 75% in HSC Category A Courses (or Interstate equivalent).

For international students

Applicants must meet High school qualifications (or equivalent) to apply for undergraduate program. Academic minimum entry requirements for international applicants vary from country to country.

IELTS (Academic) - 6.5 overall, with no individual band score lower than 6.0; CAE/CPE - 176 overall, with no individual band score lower than 169; PTE Academic - 58 overall, with no individual band score lower than 50; TOEFL (iBT) - 84 overall, with no score lower than 21 in writing and no other band score lower than 17.
