What will I learn?

Gain a broad understanding of science

With the Biology major in the Bachelor of Science, you will gain a broad knowledge in biology, chemistry and communications, as well as the option of more detailed knowledge in disciplines such as biochemistry, genetics, microbiology and physiology. This degree will give you a strong grounding for a range of science-related careers or for more specialised postgraduate study.

Career outcomes

As a graduate your career opportunities include; research officer (universities, defence, CSIRO, DPI, industry, government, and health), technical officer (labs), agricultural scientist, technical/sales representative in pharmaceutical, medical and biotechnological industries, molecular biologists, microbiologists. After further study you would be able to become a biotechnologist, dietician, research scientist, secondary science teacher, or medical specialist. Employment opportunities also exist in laboratory work in agricultural, food, health, medical, veterinary, educational and industrial settings, plant breeding, science journalism.

Entry requirements

For students from United States

Students must have completed High School Diploma + SAT. SAT Composite Score 125. Applications are based on comparisons with Australian Year 12 level examinations. English Language Requirements: IELTS (Academic only) score of 6.0 (or better) (no component lower than 5.5); TOEFL (paper based) score of 550 (or better) (with a minimum Test of Written English Score of TWE 4.5); TOEFL (electronic or computer based) score of 213 (or better) (with essay rating of at least 4.5); TOEFL (internet based) score of 80 (or better) (with 19 minimum in all bands); Pearson (PTE Academic) score of 50 (or better) (with no communicative score less than 50); Cambridge English: First (FCE)/ B2 First with a score of 169 or above. No less than 162 in each skill.

For international students

Applicant must have Australian year 12 level or equivalent.

Students from different country must have qualifications equivalent to Australia.
