At Sydney you will be taught by dedicated scientific thinkers, including members of the Australian Academy of Science, Australian Research Council Fellows and prestigious prize winners. You will study in world-class facilities, including the multimillion-dollar Sydney Nanoscience Hub and the Charles Perkins Centre, with its focus on diabetes, obesity and cardiovascular disease.

Chemistry is the study of many different things around us, including how one substance changes into another and the relationship between the nature and structure of molecules. It plays a key role in studying things like how to obtain metals from ores, convert oil into plastics and develop cures for cancer. In taking a chemistry major, you will come to understand the impact that it has on the world around us, including dyes, paints, medicines, silicon chips, artificial hips, synthetic fibres for clothing, energy storage, optical fibres and rubber tyres. You will also have the opportunity to participate in the optional 'Year in Industry' program where you'll spend one year during your course working in the chemical industry (at commercial rates of pay).

Both the public and the private sectors increasingly draw their higher management employees from chemistry graduates.

The industrial sector includes such diverse areas as petrochemicals, pharmaceuticals, medicine, food and drink, metals, polymers, computing and scientific journalism. Entry requirements

For students from United States

Admission to this course is on the basis of the following criteria: a secondary education qualification (including national and international equivalents), or approved higher education study, including approved preparation courses. English Language Requirements: IELTS overall score of 6.5 with no band below 6.0; TOEFL Paper based score of 565; TOEFL IBT: 85; PTE Academic score of 61; Cambridge English: Advanced (CAE): 58; Cambridge English: Proficiency (CPE): 45; Cambridge English scale: CAE and CPE: 176.

For international students

Admission to this course is on the basis of the following criteria:

a secondary education qualification (including national and international equivalents), or approved higher education study, including approved preparation courses.

TOEFL - IBT score: A minimum result of 85 overall including a minimum result of 17 in Reading, Listening and Speaking and 19 in Writing.

IELTS score: A minimum result of 6.5 overall and a minimum result of 6.0 in each band

Pearsons Test of English: A minimum result of 61 overall and a minimum result of 54 in each band

Application deadline: Jan/31 for Semester 1 and June/30 for semester 2.
