What will I learn?

A Sports Science major means you'll gain knowledge and skills in sport management and delivery, and in-service delivery which is essential for athlete preparation and specialized fitness industries. Our award-winning sports science practicum provides valuable workplace experience enabling you to integrate theoretical concepts with professional practice, interact with other professionals and gain eligibility to apply for membership to Exercise and Sport Science Australia (ESSA).

Do you want to work with elite athletes or the general public in the health and fitness sector? Our Sport Science major will prepare you thoroughly for a successful career in the sport and recreation industries. You'll gain the knowledge, skills and understanding needed in areas such as sport management and delivery, and in-service delivery which is essential for athlete preparation and specialised fitness industries. The award-winning sport science practicum provides you with valuable workplace experience enabling you to integrate theoretical concepts with professional practice and interact with other professionals. Placements are available in WA (at no cost) and overseas (at the student’s expense).

Career Pathways

Sports Science graduates will have the choice of three distinct career paths. You could enter the broad sports promotion, management and marketing sector. Or you might prefer a career in athlete preparation as an Exercise Scientist. The third pathway will see you move into graduate training in sport, recreation management, coaching, exercise rehabilitation, occupational safety and health or research.

Further Study

Students with a Sport Science major can pursue further studies at postgraduate level. Other further study options include the Graduate Diploma in Sport and Recreation Management, Graduate Diploma in Work and Health Safety, Master of Exercise Science (coursework), Graduate Diploma in Education, Master of Teaching, and the Master of Exercise Science (thesis and coursework).

Students are required to complete international academic qualification equivalent to Australian High School (or equivalent). Cambridge English: Advanced (CAE) - Minimum grade of 180 with no band less than 170; Cambridge Certificate of Proficiency in English (CPE) - Minimum grade of 180 with no band less than 170; GCE A-level - Minimum grade E in English Language, English Literature or English Language and Literature. IELTS - Minimum overall score of 6.5 with no band less than 6.0 (must include Academic Reading and Writing modules); PTE - An overall score of 64 with a minimum score of 59 in the speaking and writing sections, and no less than 54 in the listening and reading sections. TOEFL - Internet-based Test (iBT): An overall score of 82 with a minimum score of: 22 in the Writing section; 18 in the Reading section; 20 in the Speaking section; and 20 in the Listening section.
