What will I learn?

This course provides the skills and knowledge for an individual to be competent in a range of well-developed tourism sales, operational and tour delivery skills. Work would be undertaken in an office environment where the planning of tourism products and services takes place, in the field where tourism products are delivered, or a combination of both. The field includes any destination, local or regional area, tourist precinct, site, attraction or on-board form of transportation.

Course Notes

International students may wish to complete a travel and tourism package consisting of the Certificate III in Tourism (1 semester) and the Diploma of Travel and Tourism Management (3 semesters) for a total duration of 2 academic years (4 semesters). The fee for the 2 years package is $21,100. Students will receive a COE and a parchment for both courses within the package.

Employment Outcomes

This qualification provides a pathway to work in many tourism industry sectors and for a diversity of employers including tour operators, inbound tour operators, visitor information centres, attractions, cultural and heritage sites, and any small tourism business. Job titles may include reservation sales agent for a tour operator, visitor information officer, inbound tour coordinator, booking agent, sales consultant, attractions attendant.

Note: Completion of a TAFE SA course does not guarantee an employment outcome. Formal requirements other than educational qualifications (eg licensing, professional registration), may apply to some occupations.

Certificate III in Tourism (SIT30116)

Content meets the needs of skilled operators who wish to apply a broad range of competencies in a varied work context, using some discretion and judgment and relevant theoretical knowledge. They may provide technical advice and support to a team. Skills covered include customer service, cultural sensitivity and workplace safety. 4 core units and 11 electives.
