What will I learn?

52835WA The Certificate IV in University Access Program course is a one semester course designed to prepare international students for university academic studies. Successful completion will provide a pathway to the Diploma of Commerce at Canning College, selected universities, TAFE or the workforce.

The qualification will give students the equivalent of a 70 ATAR (Australian Teritary Admissions Rank) which can lead to entry into a selection of courses at Curtin, Edith Cowan or Murdoch university. The Certificate IV UAP will be offered as a commerce or science stream but could allow access to other degree courses subject to successful completion of entry requirements.

Program information

The program consists of two 10-week terms (22.5 hours per week). Students will do 5 units each term. Each unit involves 4.5 hours tuition per week.

Units are studied over two semesters with two intakes yearly in February and July.

The program is delivered on campus using a variety of face-face teaching methods including lectures, tutorials, workshops and seminars.

Online learning has been available for Certificate IV students since July 2020. Until further notice, online study will be available to students who are unable to travel to Perth due to COVID-19 travel restrictions.

Student Support:

Learning assistance in Mathematics, Science and Academic Communication is available through the Canning College Learning Centre.

The course also includes additional subject and study skills support.


Students who successfully complete the Certificate IV in UAP, can:

1. Progress to Diploma of Commerce at Canning College.

2. Apply to enter, at first year level, a range of undergraduate programs at Murdoch University and Curtin University.

For international students

Academic Requirements: Year 11 or equivalent with satisfactory grades.

Student English Competency Requirements:

  • Year 11 English or EALD: 50%
  • GCE ‘O’ Level English
  • SPM English: C6
  • HKDSE/FS English: Level 3
  • IELTS Overall Band Score: 5.5 or equivalent
