What will I learn?

If you have a head for numbers and your eye on the financial industry, Melbourne Polytechnic’s Diploma of Accounting will prepare you for employment in the industry within six months, as a qualified assistant accountant. Support clients with regular financial monitoring and analysis, preparation of documents, reports and accounts advice. With only 67% of vacancies for accountants filled in the past year, your skills will always be in demand.

Balance your skills with industry experience

Melbourne Polytechnic’s accounting students benefit from instructors and exercises that have been integrated from the industry. Your teachers have real-world experience as tax agents, BAS agents and CPAs, and guest lecturers from peak industry accounting bodies will share their knowledge and their networks. Melbourne Polytechnic has developed this course closely with Australia’s professional accounting bodies, and it has been accredited by CPA Australia, Chartered Accountants Australia New Zealand, and the Australian Qualifications framework. This course also provides an alternate pathway to the Bachelor of Accounting for students who have not completed secondary schooling in Australia.

The first step in your accounting career

Qualifications in accounting can be taken around the world. This course completes some of the education units required by the Tax Practitioners Board for registration as a tax agent, and successful completion of this diploma entitles you to join the Institute of Public Accountants (IPA). With this qualification you might find work as an assistant accountant, office manager, financial services assistant, or tax assistant at a multinational, boutique or government accounting service. Alternatively, Melbourne Polytechnic Diploma of Accounting students can pursue further study to advance their career in finance.

Pathways

Melbourne Polytechnic provides seamless pathways towards higher qualifications. Successful completion of this course will enable you to enrol in our Bachelor of Accounting where you will receive 8 subjects/1 year credit

Delivery methods

Students will be required to attend face-to-face delivery, for supervised assessments for the TAX units to meet the Tax Practitioners Board requirements.

Classes are conducted on campus as face-to-face delivery.

Assessments are managed with Moodle, the online Learning Management System.

Assessment Methods

Assessment consists of engagement via email, phone, Zoom, Moodle activities including collaborative tasks and individual project work, Moodle forums and direct feedback via Moodle.

Academic: Australian Year 12 equivalency
English: Academic IELTS 5.5 with no individual band below 5.0, Pearson PTE Academic 42 overall with no individual communicative skill below 36; Cambridge English Scale (Cambridge: First (FCE), Cambridge: Advanced (CAE), Cambridge: Proficiency (CPE)): 162 overall (Individual bands: minimum 154); Melbourne Polytechnic: ELICOS: 2+ ISLPR overall (individual bands: minimum ISLPR 2).
