Summary

Begin your career in popular music production, sound design and electronic music production using industry standard hardware and software. Get hands-on from day one in this exciting, new and highly practical course that develops your own individual music production style. Whether you’re a electronic music producer or interested in producing bands, the Diploma of Music Production will sharpen your music production skills.

Through hands-on training, we’ll help you amplify your talents, refine your skills and be industry ready in a matter of months. You’ll be guided by master lecturers who will train you in music production and sound design techniques, while also giving you great insight into the music industry.

As part of your course you’ll work collaboratively with a local music group of your choosing, to produce a recording of either a rehearsal or live performance. You’ll have the skills to prepare a production brief and be able to apply your music production skills to meet the clients brief.

Upon completion you will be eligible for up to 80 credit points towards either the Bachelor of Audio (Studio production) or Bachelor of Audio (Post Production).

The Diploma of Music Production has a strong practical focus, underpinned by key theoretical components. The course content is informed by our strong links to industry and our 40-year history in designing and teaching creative media courses.

To complement your technical skills, you will graduate with skills across:

  • Employability skills specific to creative media
  • Introductory project management and different project management methodologies
  • Teamwork and collaboration in the context of creative media

Entry requirement for international students

SAE recognises that preparation for study is not restricted to formal educational attainment and that valuable skills development can be gained through relevant experience.

Our Experience-based Entry Scheme allows you to be considered for entry to an undergraduate course through an assessment of your ability to succeed in higher education.

SAE will review applications on a case by case basis if you:

  • Are at least 18 years of age

  • Do not have the formal qualifications required for direct entry

English Language Requirements

International students have to provide additional evidence of language skills and complete one of the following:

IELTS Academic: 5.5 overall score. No band score less than 5.0; PTE (Pearson Test of English) Academic: 46 overall score; TOEFL paper based test: 527 overall score; TOEFL iBT (Internet Based Test): 63 overall score.
