What will I learn?

This is a professional doctorate consisting of a combination of coursework units and a thesis.

This Doctoral program is designed for law graduates with relevant experience. It involves completion of a combination of coursework units and a 50,000 to 60,000 word thesis. Prior to being admitted to candidature an applicant may be required by the Governing Board to undertake any of the following: (a) complete such courses, lectures, seminars and other work as may be directed; (b) complete such research preparation as directed and provide particulars of the progress and results of the research as requested; or (3) pass an examination approved by the Board.

Entry requirements

For students from United States

Students must have a bachelor's degree of this University or equivalent qualification or have previously undertaken work of a sufficiently high standard towards a higher degree by research in this or another approved institution but not has submitted it for any degree; have completed an appropriate PhD research proposal. Cambridge English: Advanced (CAE) - Minimum grade of 180 with no band less than 170; Cambridge Certificate of Proficiency in English (CPE) - Minimum grade of 180 with no band less than 170; GCE A-level - Minimum grade E in English Language, English Literature or English Language and Literature. IELTS (Academic) overall score minimum of 7.5, (minimum of 7.5 in reading and writing and 7.0 in listening and speaking); PTE - An overall score of 64 with a minimum score of 59 in the speaking and writing sections, and no less than 54 in the listening and reading sections. TOEFL - Internet-based Test (iBT): An overall score of 82 with a minimum score of: 22 in the Writing section; 18 in the Reading section; 20 in the Speaking section; and 20 in the Listening section.

For international students

To be considered for admission to this course an applicant must have - (a) the Bachelor of Laws with first or upper second-class honours; or an equivalent qualification, as recognised by UWA or (b)(i) a Juris Doctor or Master of Laws, including a 12-point research project, or an equivalent qualification, as recognised by UWA; and (ii) the equivalent of a UWA weighed an average mark of at least 70 per cent or (c)(i) a bachelor's degree in law, or an equivalent qualification, as recognised by UWA; and (ii) evidence of adequate research preparation as recognised by UWA; and (iii) at least two years of relevant professional experience, or (d)(i) completed 24 points of a Master of Laws (LLM) at UWA or elsewhere, including a 12-point research paper (ii) the equivalent of a UWA weighted average mark of at least 70 percent on completed LLM units; and (iii) a mark of at least 70 percent in the 12-points research paper.
