What will I learn?

Research supervision in languages is available in a wide variety of areas. This includes Ancient Greek and Latin literature, literary theory, literature in modern European languages, nomadic and migrant literature and literature across cultures and art forms. You may also research language, culture and identity in politics, translation theory and practice, language teaching policy and history. Research is available in teaching and learning European languages as a second language, including curriculum design, teaching of culture, literature, pragmatics, discourse and writing.Other areas of interest at ANU are linguistics, second language acquisition theory, French in the Pacific, gender studies in Italy, phraseology and culture and sociolinguistics of Italian and Spanish. You may research teaching and learning to write in a foreign language, curriculum design in German tertiary programs, second language acquisition of Indonesian in instructed settings and monolingual and bilingual first language acquisition of Mandarin.

Entry requirements

For international students

Applicants must present at a minimum, an Australian Honours degree or equivalent, with a result of H2A (Second Class Honours Division A), and the approval of an identified supervisor for the research project/thesis. Equivalence may be met by completion of a Masters degree that includes a significant research component, or by a combination of qualifications and professional experience.
