What will I learn?

Contemporary podiatrists need to manage diagnostic uncertainty and be skilled at interprofessional collaboration and referrals. Building on an undergraduate degree in foundational sciences, a Doctor of Podiatric Medicine entry to practice qualification will enable graduates to deliver evidence-based care to people with complex health needs, with leadership and management skills enabling proficient use of limited health resources. In this course, you will develop the relevant knowledge, practical and analytical skills required for podiatry practice, as well as extend your undergraduate skills of communication, ethical and reflective practice, collaboration, research, and leadership. This graduate entry course consists of fourteen units delivered over three years. Foundational knowledge and skills are introduced in year one, with the focus on integration of prior science knowledge and principles into the context of podiatry in addition to the development of clinical skills. An integrated and case-based learning approach facilitates active learning and development, which include early workplace and interprofessional learning opportunities. Clinical placements occur in years two and three, with practice in a simulated setting prior to acute, subacute, community and private practice clinical placements. A learner-centred philosophy allows preferences to be pursued in an independent research project in the final year.
