What will I learn?

USQ’s Graduate Diploma of Engineering Science (Mechanical Engineering) is ideal if you have a three year engineering degree and you want to extend your knowledge and practical experience in mechanical engineering. You don’t even need work experience to commence your postgraduate studies in this degree.

Through this eight unit degree, you will do a combination of advanced study and practice of mechanical engineering, empowering you to design, inspect, manage and test technologies, systems and procedures.

Further study

When you complete your Graduate Diploma of Engineering Science you could take the credit from your studies and go on to complete the Master of Engineering Science where you will have the opportunity to do a research project and dissertation to apply your formal knowledge to a real world issue.

Career outcomes

As a mechanical engineering graduate, you could work in manufacturing, refineries, mining, transportation, computing, energy, and education industries. Your experience could see you solving practical engineering problems and improving efficiency.

Professional accreditation

The Graduate Diploma of Engineering Science is not accredited by any professional bodies other than the University of Southern Queensland. It does however provide a pathway to the Master of Engineering Science which is provisionally accredited with Engineers Australia for membership as a graduate Professional Engineer.

Entry requirements

For students from United States

Students must have an Australian university three or four-year Bachelor degree in an approved discipline area, or equivalent or a minimum of five years’ relevant professional work experience. English language requirements: IELTS (Academic only) score of 6.5 (or better)(no component lower than 6.0); TOEFL (paper based) score of 570 (with a minimum Test of Written English score TWE 5); TOEFL (electronic or computer based) score of 230 (with an essay rating of at least 5); TOEFL (internet based) score of 90 (or better) (with 20 minimum in all bands); Pearson (PTE Academic) score of 58 (or better) (with no communicative score less than 58); Cambridge English: Advanced (CAE)/ C1 Advanced or Proficiency (CPE)/C2 Proficiency with a score of 176 or above. No less than 169 in each skill.

For international students

Applicants must have

  • Australian university three or four-year Bachelor degree in engineering in the relevant specialisation, or equivalent or
  • Australian university four-year Bachelor degree in engineering in a non-related specialisation, or equivalent.
