Summary

The Graduate Diploma of Psychology provides fourth year training in Psychology for students who have completed an accredited 3 year undergraduate psychology program.

You participate in a small group research project and learn the skills of devising and implementing a research project along with the skills of analysing data and writing a thesis.

Study the methods and ethics of scientific investigation and evidence-based practice. Access JCU's observation suites, electrically shielded psychophysiology recording facilities, drugs and human performance research facilities.

Subjects include:

  • Ethics for Research and Professional and Evidence Based Practice
  • Design and Analysis for Research
  • Operationalising the Scientific Practitioner Model
  • Psychology: Now and the Future

Course Highlights:

You will have amazing opportunities to learn from JCU's world-recognised researchers and lecturers, so you'll get first-hand knowledge from people who are experts in their field.
JCU's psychology staff have a research focus. You'll be encouraged to actively engage in current research. And as JCU hosts a series of annual seminars presented by national and international experts, you'll be able to learn even more, and meet up with experts in their field.
You will also have the opportunity to become part of active Psychology Clubs and organisations - whether you're studying at Townsville or Cairns - and you'll be able to build friendships and networks with fellow students from all year levels who share your interests and experiences.

Career opportunities:

Graduates of this course who wish to become fully registered as psychologists must complete, in addition to this course, two years of supervised practice in the field, or an accredited Masters degree (for example JCU's Master of Psychology [Clinical]) with one further year of supervised practice.
