Gain a comprehensive overview of the theoretical and practical aspects of urban design.

The Graduate Diploma in Urban Design provides a focused year of urban design history, theory, implementation strategy and studio based learning. The Graduate Diploma builds on the Graduate Certificate and offers students experience as individual designers and as participants in interdisciplinary groups assigned to working on the complex nature of urban design issues. The Graduate Diploma also offers students preliminary experience in conducting independent research. Students graduating with a Diploma will have a working knowledge of urban design. Their degree of experience would qualify them to participate in interdisciplinary professional teams involved in the production of urban design in a professional context.

Entry requirements

For students from United States

To be considered for admission to this course an applicant must have - (a)(i) a bachelor's degree, or an equivalent qualification, as recognised by UWA; and (ii) the equivalent of a UWA weighted average mark of at least 65 per cent in the Level 3 units of a major; or (b) a level and duration of education, professional experience, and/or demonstrable life skills considered by UWA to be sufficient to permit satisfactory completion of the course; and (c)(i) demonstrated native or near-native proficiency in the chosen language specialisation; or ii) for French, Italian, German, and Spanish, B2/C1 levels of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages; for Chinese, HSK 4 to 5; for Japanese, Level N2/N3 at the JLPT (Japanese Language Proficiency Test); for Indonesian, Level 3 at the UKBI (UjianKemahiran Bahasa Indonesia) or Level 4 at the ISLPR (International Second Language Proficiency Ratings); and for Korean, Level 4 at the TOPIK (Test of Proficiency in Korean).

For international students

(1) To be considered for admission to this course an applicant must have—
(a) a Bachelor's degree, or an equivalent qualification, as recognised by UWA;
and
(b) the equivalent of a UWA weighted average mark of at least 50 per cent;
and
(c) successfully completed prior study in a field relevant to Urban Design; or
(2) completed a Graduate Certificate in Urban Design at UWA.

Cambridge English: Advanced (CAE) - Minimum grade of 180 with no band less than 170; Cambridge Certificate of Proficiency in English (CPE) - Minimum grade of 180 with no band less than 170; GCE A-level - Minimum grade E in English Language, English Literature or English Language and Literature. IELTS - Minimum overall score of 6.5 with no band less than 6.0 (must include Academic Reading and Writing modules); International Baccalaureate Diploma (IB) - English A1 at HL or SL - Minimum score 4, English A2 at HL or SL - Minimum score 4, English B at HL - Minimum score 5; PTE - An overall score of 64 with a minimum score of 59 in the speaking and writing sections, and no less than 54 in the listening and reading sections. TOEFL - Internet-based Test (iBT): An overall score of 82 with a minimum score of: 22 in the Writing section; 18 in the Reading section; 20 in the speaking section; and 20 in the Listening section.
