What will I learn?

The Graduate Diploma in Youth Mental Health gives you access to expert knowledge and the latest theory, research and evidence-based approaches in this specialised and rapidly-evolving area of mental health.

Developed in close consultation with Orygen, the National Centre of Excellence in Youth Mental Health – a global leader of research in the field – this course provides a comprehensive understanding of development in young people. You will discuss the impacts of psychotic, non-psychotic, behavioural and mood disorders, learn best-practice engagement, assessment and intervention approaches and enhance your existing abilities when working with young people in a therapeutic or clinical context.

The course is valuable for healthcare professionals working in a range of clinical and community settings. You will learn alongside a diverse group of peers while gaining insights relevant to your own practice.

Delivered online, this two year, part-time course provides the flexibility and support needed for busy professionals to fit study around existing work commitments.

Entry requirements

For students from United States

Applicants need to successfully complete an undergraduate degree. English language requirements: IELTS (academic English Only) - 6.5 overall, with written 6.5 and no band less than 6.0; TOEFL (paper-based test) - 577 + TWE 4.5; TOEFL (internet-based test) - 79 + (Writing 21; Speaking 18; Reading 13; Listening 13); Pearson Test of English – you need an overall score from a minimum between 58-64 inclusive and achieve no PTE communicative skills score below 50; Cambridge English, Advanced/Certificate in Advanced English (CAE) – you need a Cambridge English Score from a minimum 176 with no skill below 169.

For international students

In order to be considered for entry, applicants must have completed:

An undergraduate degree in a cognate discipline such as Health Science, Social Work, Psychology, Medicine, or related discipline; or
An undergraduate degree or equivalent in any discipline, and at least two years of documented relevant professional work experience; or
At least six years of documented relevant professional work experience, including clear evidence of career development, professional writing, and professional achievement or practice comparable to that expected of undergraduate degree holders in cognate disciplines.
