What will I learn?

The Master of Banking and Finance degree is ideal for those students wishing to work in the banking and/or finance sector. It is highly practical, designed to meet employer needs, and provides graduates with the theoretical knowledge, capabilities and professional development skills relevant to a career in the profession. The degree is taught at the prestigious Macquarie Business School at Macquarie University.

You will either complete 6 months of Master of Finance or 1 year of MBA at the East China Normal University (ECNU), China, before transferring to the final year of the Master of Banking and Finance program at Macquarie University. You will be able to specialise in Financial management.

The specialisation in Financial management teaches planning, organising, directing and controlling financial activities such as raising and effectively using funds. Services provided may include account management, brokerage, investment advice and negotiation. You’ll be able to critically evaluate complex banking and financial problems, do independent research, and use sound professional judgement to find solutions to problems. You will also become aware of ethical, social, regulatory, economic, sustainability and global perspectives relevant to the financial sector.

Degree Structure:

The complete program requires 120 credit points: 40 credits of essential units, 60 for the specialisation and the remaining 20 as electives units. Macquarie awards 60 credits for the duration/units completed at the partner institution. The program at Macquarie will be delivered over three terms. To be eligible to graduate a student must satisfy all requirements specified for the course.

Student must have: Australian level 7 bachelor's qualification or recognised equivalent; GPA of (5.00 out of 7.00) or (3.00 out of 4.00) or overseas equivalents; Recent successful completion of specified prerequisite units at tertiary level.

For international students

  • AQF level 7 bachelor's qualification or recognised equivalent

1.5 years full-time

  • AQF level 7 bachelor's qualification in a related field or recognised equivalent, or
  • AQF level 7 bachelor's qualification or recognised equivalent and two years relevant approved work experience, professional certification or other recognised prior learning

Academic IELTS of 6.5 overall with minimum 6.0 in each band, or equivalent.

Admission to Macquarie University requires: Successful completion of the relevant course at ECNU
