What will I learn?

The Master of Philosophy (MPhil) degree is undertaken as a supervised program of original research.

It is suited to those with some research training and experience, but who do not meet the eligibility criteria for direct entry into the Doctor of Philosophy (PhD).

The School of Law provides a supportive and engaged higher degree research culture. We offer postgraduate research degrees in our areas of research strengths: Doctor of Philosophy (PhD), Master of Philosophy (MPhil) (Law) and Master of Research (MRes). Western Sydney University, including the School of Law, is a partner institution in the Joint PhD Degree Human Rights, Society, and Multi-level Governance, a three-year, interdisciplinary, joint academic program managed by Universities in Australia, Croatia, Greece, Italy, coordinated by the University of Padova (Italy).

Entry requirements

For students from United States

An applicant for a Masters Coursework degree program must either hold: A Bachelor degree or an overseas qualification from a recognized university or tertiary institution that is equivalent to a Bachelor degree, or a Graduate Diploma from a recognized tertiary institution or university. English language requirements: IELTS (Academic version): 6.5 overall score, minimum 6.0 in each subtest; TOEFL internet-based score: Total score 82, Writing 21, Speaking 18, Reading 13, Listening 13; Pearson Test of English Academic (PTE): 58 overall; No communication skills less than 50.

For international students

Western Sydney University must be satisfied that you have the skills and experience to commence independent study at a suitable level for entry into this program.

To be eligible for admission, you must have previously completed at least one of the following qualifications:

Bachelor (Honours Class 1 or Class 2) degree;

Master of Research degree;

Qualifications from a university or other tertiary institution equivalent to the above.
