This course will further advance your beauty therapy skills and prepare you for management positions in salons and spas. You will be ready to work in-house or as an independent freelance professional.

We’ll ensure you know the theory and science behind treatments and equip you with knowledge of the most up-to-date beauty techniques. The course includes a practical placement in a salon of your choice where you can gain confidence and face-to-face experience.

This course provides training in basic and advanced beauty therapy techniques and services including:

  • advice on and selling of retail skin care and cosmetic products.

The beauty, massage and make-up industry is growing. The Diploma of Beauty Therapy is the highest level of qualification in the beauty industry. Job prospects are good, with employment for beauty therapists expected to grow.

As a qualified beauty therapist, you could find employment in spas and salons here or overseas. This qualification prepares you to manage your own beauty salon and employ staff. You could also work from home as a freelance beauty consultant.

Pathways to further study

On completion of this course you will be guaranteed entry into the following degrees and in some cases receive credit for your study:

Bachelor of Dermal Sciences

You will be credited for up to 96 credit points of study.

Bachelor of Health Science

You will be guaranteed entry only.

Course structure

To be awarded SHB50115 Diploma of Beauty Therapy, a student must successfully complete a total of twenty-five (25) units of competency, comprising of:

  • thirteen (13) core units, and;
  • twelve (12) elective units, of which:
  • all units listed within Group A or Group B or Group C must be selected, and;
  • remaining units must be selected from Group D - General Electives, elsewhere in the SHB Hairdressing and Beauty Services Training Package, or any other current training package or accredited course.

Learning outcomes

Students who complete this course work relatively autonomously, and are accountable for personal outputs. Their work involves the self-directed application of knowledge and skills with substantial depth in some areas where judgement is required in planning and selecting appropriate equipment, services and techniques. Elective units allow specialisation in areas such as electrolysis/diathermy, relaxation massage or spa treatments.

University of Cambridge - Advanced (CAE): Overall score of 162. No individual band less than 154.
