What will I learn?

If you have strong customer service skills and a keen interest in the Tourism industry, this qualification will provide you with the skills you need to work in your tourism field of choice.

This qualification is ideal if you are looking to gain employment in the Tourism industry sector, and allows for multi-skilling and specialisation in roles that involve planning and coordinating a range of tourism services.

In this course, you will gain the skills you need to work for tour operators of varying sizes, inbound tour operators, visitor information centres, a range of visitor/tourist attractions, cultural and heritage sites and/or any other tourism-related business.

This course will provide you with the opportunity to gain an in-depth view of the Tourism industry, and will give you valuable experience in sourcing and using information on the Tourism and Travel industry and related events, and in providing high quality customer service and visitor information.

You’ll also learn how to work effectively in a business environment and participate in safe work practices, as well as show social and cultural sensitivity – which is an important skill to have if you are looking to work in the Tourism industry. Your choice of course electives will vary slightly between regions due to a different industry focus in the north/north west and south of the state. Electives can include providing responsible service of alcohol, or providing advice on Australian wines, sourcing and using information on the events industry, or providing event staging support. Other electives cover things like providing a briefing or scripted commentary, using social media in a business, conducting a product tasting for alcoholic beverages, or providing first aid. Please contact us to find out what electives are offered in your region.

On successful completion of this course, you will have the skills you need to seek employment in a range of tourism operations, either in an office-based role planning and coordinating tourism services, or in a role based ‘in the field’ where products are delivered. You may also like to go on to undertake further study in this area with SIT40116 –Certificate IV in Travel and Tourism.
