What will I learn?

If you love food and cooking, being creative and managing a team, then our commercial cookery, patisserie and hospitality management courses are for you.

Study a combined course of commercial cookery and hospitality management and obtain three qualifications in two years.

  • SIT30816 Certificate III in Commercial Cookery (1 year)
  • SIT40516 Certificate IV in Commercial Cookery (6 months)
  • SIT50416 Diploma of Hospitality Management (6 months)

OR

Study a combined course of patisserie and hospitality management and obtain three qualifications in two years.

  • SIT30816 Certificate III in Patisserie (1 year)
  • SIT40516 Certificate IV in Patisserie (6 months)
  • SIT50416 Diploma of Hospitality Management (6 months)

After completing the Certificate III in Commercial Cookery & Certificate IV in Commercial Cookery, or the Certificate III in Patisserie & Certificate IV in Patisserie you can choose to pathway to the Diploma of Hospitality Management, where you will learn how to become a highly skilled operational manager with a broad range of hospitality skills.

Work placement/industry experience

Gain work experience in a real working kitchen and practice your skills during placements at the Gordon’s professional hospitality venues: Cafe on Track and The Davidson Restaurant.

Full time - 3 days a week

Changes to delivery due to COVID-19

The Gordon is utilising Gordon Online, our digital learning management system to ensure students continue to learn and reach their study goals during isolation. Classes are being delivered live (in real-time) using audio-visual delivery methods. Where on-campus attendance is required to complete practical learning and assessments, student numbers are being managed to ensure social distancing can be observed.

Entry requirements

For international students

  • International student
  • You must be 18 years or over at the time of course commencement.
  • Language (English):
  • IELTS Academic overall score of 5.5 with no band below 5.0 (or equivalent); or completion of Australian Year 12; or a qualification undertaken in Australia at Certificate IV or higher and completed within the past 5 years; or university studies in Australia of at least 2 years duration. TOEFL iBT: 46-59; PTE Academic: 43-50; Cambridge English: Advanced (CAE): 47-51; OET: C.
