What will I learn?

Get a head start on a teaching career with a direct pathway into Trents Bachelor of Education (B.Ed.) program. A number of guaranteed spaces are reserved for Child & Youth Studies graduates. The Child & Youth Studies program focuses on the different ways children learn and develop. Knowledge gained from lively and interactive in-class discussions are complemented and enhanced by opportunities to gain hands- on work experience with community partners. Youll gain essential expertise in understanding the child and youth experience through exploration in emotional and cognitive development, relationships and social interaction, diversity and social justice, laws and rights, and teaching and programming. This interdisciplinary approach to learning helps prepare you for a variety of careers connecting you with your future goals. Family, marriage and other related counsellors assist individuals and groups of clients to identify, understand and overcome personal problems and achieve personal objectives. They are employed by counselling centres, social service agencies, group homes, government agencies, family therapy centres, and health care and rehabilitation facilities, or they may work in private practice.

Entry requirements

For international students

Student must complete High School diploma (or equivalent) qualification.

English Language Proficiency Tests:

  • TOEFL: minimum score of 86 IBT with a minimum writing score of 20.
  • IELTS: minimum score of 6.5, with no band below 6.0
  • CAEL: minimum score of 60
  • Cambridge B2 First, C1 Advanced/C2 Proficiency (Certificate of Advanced English): 176, with no sub-score below 169
  • Pearson PTE Academic: minimum score of 59.
  • The Duolingo English Test score of 115
