Summary

The International Studies programs provide students with a broad base of knowledge of the global community in which they live, along with more advanced study and experience in global affairs. The programs consist of an integrated group of courses reflecting international aspects from cultural, economic, environmental, legal, political and social perspectives. Foreign language training and study abroad experiences are also incorporated into the programs. The International Studies program is designed to be taken through one of two different concentrations: Global Governance or Global Culture.

Where can this lead you?

Our graduates are employed in all sorts of interesting and, above all, challenging jobs. They are employed in urban affairs and planning, in journalism, financial management, government, including external affairs, and in teaching in colleges and universities in Canada and abroad. They are also engaged in teaching English as a second language in South Korea and Japan. In addition, they are employed in non-governmental organizations as policy analysts, working for a diverse range of organizations including interest groups, think-tanks, and even banks and large firms. Others are employed in management recruitment, insurance management, business-government consulting, communications consulting and even in consulting on security especially on terrorism.

Entry requirement for international students

International High School Students: You are considered an international high school student for admission purposes if you: are currently completing secondary school at a country outside of Canada or the USA; or you completed secondary school at a country outside of Canada or the USA within the last two years and you have not studied elsewhere since completing your secondary school studies

Admission Requirements General: Completed secondary school credential that would permit you access to university in that country. If you are studying at or have graduated from secondary school in a country where secondary school finishes after only 11 years of formal schooling, you may not apply directly to Bishop’s University. You will need to complete at least one year of study at a college or university before applying to transfer to Bishop’s.

English language proficiency requirements: TOEFL minimum overall score of 237 (computer-based) or 90 (internet based); IELTS minimum overall score of 6.5; MELAB minimum overall score of 85; Canadian Academic English Language - CAEL minimum overall score of 70; Cambridge English: Proficiency (CPE) minimum score of C; Cambridge English: Advanced (CAE) minimum score of C; Pearson Test of English: Academic (PTE: Academic) minimum overall score of 61.
