The Department of Anthropology at UNB specializes in the holistic study of humankind from our early origins to our present day societies and cultures. We welcome all students to join us in our exploration to investigate and expand our understanding of the lived experience of human.

We offer both honours and majors degrees concentrating on sociocultural, medical and biological anthropology and archaeology.

You will be introduced to these fields at both introductory and advanced levels. We also cover a wide variety of geographical areas, including Atlantic Canada, native people of North America, Latin America and Asia.

We offer courses on geographical areas on a rotational basis. We expect you to take courses in theory.

We recommend specific courses for honours to ensure that you acquire a thorough knowledge of anthropological and archaeological theory and research methods while you get ready for graduate studies.

Our program provides a sound background for post-graduate study.

Entry requirement for international students

Students must complete high school for admission to the University of New Brunswick. They must complete six specific high school courses, according to their program of choice. UNB takes the overall average of the high school grades achieved in these six courses to calculate the student’s "minimum admission average", which is used to determine admissibility.

Course requirements:

Senior English Literature (60% or higher)

4 electives from group 1

1 elective from group 1, 2 or 3

Minimum admission average: 65%

The University of New Brunswick accepts qualified applicants from all countries. Entry requirements may vary from country to country.

International students require the following English language proficiency minimum scores for direct entry into most academic programs: IELTS 6.5, TOEFL iBT 85, CAEL 60, or Pearson Vue Test 59.
