The Marketing Management major is interdisciplinary, follows a liberal education philosophy, and is built on the Department’s expertise in the field of marketing and consumer research.
The Department of Marketing and Consumer Studies prepares students for a career in marketing but also for educating them so that they can be active and engaged citizens. This is achieved from a balanced curriculum of marketing and liberal education courses that provide students with an understanding of the world they will work and live in. Students will gain knowledge in creating, communicating, and delivering product offerings to create value to stakeholders in a global and connected economy. Students completing this major will be prepared to pursue a variety of marketing career paths and diverse leadership roles.
Elective options enable students to select courses which support or complement their primary field of study. Examples: (1) students can use a combination of restricted, Liberal Education, and free electives to earn the Certificate in Leadership. (2) students interested in languages and/or going on exchange can use their Liberal Education and free electives to study one or more of the various languages taught at the University. Note: students also can take courses of interest as electives without concern for categories.
Better understand customers and competition to help organizations solve their marketing problems. Examine core business areas such as finance and HR, and also explore topics such as consumer psychology, market research and pricing and product development. Learn to make decisions based on analysis and research. Complement your studies with liberal arts and social science courses. Prepare for diverse marketing career paths, and leadership roles.

The secondary school graduation certificate which would admit a student to an internationally recognized university in his or her home country is normally acceptable for admission to the University of Guelph.
English Proficiency Requirements
International English Language Testing System (IELTS) - Minimum overall score of 6.5 with no band less than 6
Cambridge English: C1 Advanced and C2 Proficiency - Minimum overall score of 176 with no band less than 169.
Canadian Academic English Language Assessment (CAEL) - Minimum overall band score of 70
Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) Internet-based: minimum total score of 89 with no individual scaled score less than 21; Computer-based: minimum score of 250; Paper-based: minimum score of 600
Duolingo English Test - Minimum overall score of 110. Individual subscores may be considered.
Pearson Test of English (PTE) - Minimum score of 60 and no score less than 60 for any individual component
Advanced Level of the English Language Certificate Program - Successful completion of the University of Guelph, Open Learning Advanced Level of the English Language Certificate Program (Levels 9 and 10).
